About DeafAssist
Why we built this — and why it's free.
The problem
Deaf students, patients and service users deserve full access to spoken communication. Audio-to-text transcription tools exist — but they're locked behind expensive enterprise plans, per-minute billing, or privacy-invasive platforms. Schools for the Deaf, NHS audiology departments and deaf charities don't have budget for that.
What DeafAssist does
Upload any audio recording — a meeting, a lesson, a medical appointment, a BSL interpreter session — and DeafAssist transcribes it using OpenAI Whisper, the most accurate speech recognition model available. The transcript is saved to your account, searchable, and can be copied or shared instantly.
You can also paste existing transcripts directly, making DeafAssist a central record for all your organisation's communication accessibility documents.
Why it's free
Napier Digital builds SaaS compliance tools for UK businesses. We believe that accessibility technology should never be behind a paywall for organisations that exist to serve deaf and hard-of-hearing people. DeafAssist is our contribution — built at cost, offered freely, with no plans to change that.
